FALSVM
Forging Authorship
in Literature, Scholarship, and Visual Media
The project
“FALSVM – Forging Authorship in Literature, Scholarship, and Visual Media” is an interdisciplinary project investigating the multifaceted phenomenon of forgery in the production and reception of culture. Specifically, FALSVM aims to:
- study forgery with regard to its material, textual, artistic, theoretical, and cultural aspects;
- articulate the different typologies of non-authentic works (counterfeit, misattribution, etc.) and the varying epistemic challenges they pose;
- problematize the related concepts of authorship, authenticity, and authority, especially as they are used to oppose a canon of genuine works to non-authentic, ‘minor’ ones;
- study and re-evaluate the latter for their intrinsic value;
- ultimately create a trans-disciplinary platform for broader debates on (in)authenticity in multiple areas of knowledge, communication, and creativity.
FALSVM is financed with PRIN PNRR 2022 funds.
